The Top 50 Women in Accounting Awards have been running for five years. They are designed to highlight 50 exceptional women from around the world each year who are "driving meaningful change and leading the way for the next generation" in accounting and finance.

The goal of the awards is to showcase women who are not just excelling professionally, but making an impact as role models and paving the way for more female leadership and empowerment in the industry. Selection Process and Criteria

The winners of the 2021 Top 50 Women in Accounting Awards were selected from nearly 1000 nominees, representing a 27% increase in submissions compared to 2020. The judging panel evaluated each nominee based on several criteria, including:

- Industry contributions in 2021 - Nominees were assessed based on their achievements and impact made within the accounting industry over the past year. The judges looked for women who have spearheaded important initiatives, taken on leadership roles, driven innovation, and made other significant contributions.

- Empowering future female leaders - An important criterion was whether the nominee has actively worked to encourage and uplift future generations of women in the accounting and finance professions. Mentorship efforts, promoting women into leadership roles, and creating programs to support young women entering the field were considered.

- Empowering others in general - Beyond female future leaders, the judges also evaluated whether the nominees are empowering others more broadly through volunteering, community programs, philanthropy, or other efforts. Supporting traditionally underrepresented groups was viewed favorably.

- Professional experience - Nominees were assessed on the breadth and depth of their professional experience based on leadership roles held, credentials and qualifications obtained, awards and honors received, and other evidence of expertise. Longevity and advancement in the field were considered.

By celebrating accomplishments, the awards motivate women to keep striving for greater equality. They foster a culture that values diversity and inclusion. The honorees essentially become change agents, encouraging workplaces to provide advancement opportunities for women and helping eliminate gender bias.
